What we should wear?
There is no official dress code. And although blankets are provided on the boats for your comfort; we suggest you dress in layers, as the weather is unpredictable. It can become quite cool on the water in the evening. We do not recommend the ladies wear spike-heel shoes as these tend to become lodged between the planes on the dock and may break or become damaged.

<% end if if faq="people" then%>

What if there are only two people in my group? Will there be others on our Gondola?
You will be placed in your own private Gondola with your guests. We do not combine parties.

<% end if if faq="weather" then%>

What happens if the weather is bad?
If it is raining, we will allow cancellations up to one-half hour before your cruise. Our normal cancellation policy is not in effect. We still take customers out in the rain (with umbrellas) if the customer chooses in cases where the rain is not torrential. This is why we still require a cancellation. Also, if you have a reservation, and it's raining where you live, please call us to verify the conditions. The weather is often much different at our location. If the rain is uncommonly heavy, the Gondola Getaway reserves the right to cancel all cruises on that evening. While this poses unfortunate inconveniences to those with reservations, it is sometimes necessary. In such an event, we will notify all parties by phone as far in advance as possible at the number they left when making their reservation.

<% end if if faq="seasick" then%>

I tend to get seasick. Is there a danger of motion sickness?
Although the cruise is on the water, Alamitos Bay is a calm, protected body of water and our boats rock only slightly in this environment. Even our most sensitive customers have stated that they have experienced no problems with motion sickness during their cruise.

<% end if if faq="water" then%>

How deep is the water?
The water in the bay ranges from ankle-deep at the beach to approximately 25 feet in the center. The canals of Naples range from 6 feet in depth at very low tide to 15 feet during the highest tides.

<% end if if faq="late" then%>

What happens if we arrive late?
Unfortunately, since the Gondolas run on a fixed schedule with very little turnaround time, your cruise may be cut short. Depending on how late you arrive after your reserved time. If you know you are going to be late, it is a good idea to call and let us know so we can remain prepared to accommodate you.

<% end if if faq="cancel" then%>

What happens if we can't make our scheduled reservation?
If you know for sure that you will not be able to come for your cruise, it is your responsibility to call us and let us know 24 hours in advance or by 5PM the previous day, whichever is earlier. When you make your reservation, we require a credit card number or a deposit to guarantee us of such a cancellation. If you cancel at or before our specified time, there will be no charge to your credit card (or your prepayment credited to your account.) HOWEVER, if you fail to cancel before the deadline, you will forfeit any prepayment or be subjected to the full price of the cruise on your credit card. We must be strict about this as it is nearly impossible for us to fill the cancelled reservations in time to recover lost business.

<% end if if faq="fallen" then%>

Has anybody ever fallen into the water? Have any of the Gondolas tipped over?
Since our establishment in 1982, none of our Gondolas has ever tipped over. And none of our customers has ever fallen overboard, but we can't say that nobody has ever decided to go swimming!

<% end if if faq="sing" then%>

Do any of your Gondoliers sing?
Yes! We do have a handful of talented singing Gondoliers. But due to the nature of the way they schedule their work hours, we cannot guarantee you will have one on your Gondola, nor can we take requests for them.

<% end if if faq="motors" then%>

Are there motors on the boats?
Absolutely not! We offer authentic cruises powered by a real live human being trained to efficiently and quietly propel you and your Gondola through the water.

<% end if if faq="poles" then%>

Do the Gondolier use poles or paddles?
Neither. The water is much to deep to use poles either here or in Italy! And a paddle is a small, hand-held, unmounted device such as used when "paddling" a canoe; our Gondoliers "row" the boats using "oars."

<% end if if faq="served" then%>

What is served on our cruise aboard the Gondola?
We provide complimentary cups, ice buckets with ice, blankets, and music. You simply need to bring any beverage you would like to drink, such as wine, beer, champagne, beer, juice or coffee...

<% end if if faq="tip" then%>

How much should I tip my Gondolier?
Fifteen to twenty-five percent seems to be the average gratuity ($10 to $25 depending on the number of passengers.) Tips are always appreciated by the gondoliers.

<% end if if faq="time" then%>

When is the best time of day to schedule a cruise?
Our most popular time is at sunset. If you wish to sightsee, you would probably prefer to take a daytime cruise. But if you're in a romantic mood, there is little else for you but an enchanting cruise after dark...A full moon can be a special addition to a wonderful night.

<% end if if faq="lights" then%>

Some of your cruises are after dark. Will we be able to see at night?
Yes. There are lamps on the Gondola and streetlights in the canals. Moonlight and the stars contribute to the fact that our evening cruises are our most popular ones.

<% end if if faq="boats" then%>

What Kinds of boats do you have and how many people can they carry?
We have a total of ten Gondolas. In addition to any Gondoliers involved, their capacities (enforced by the U.S. Coast Guard) are as follows. Two of them can carry only two people. Four boats are for parties of two to six people. And two of our Gondolas, called Caorlinas (Kah or LEE nas) can accommodate between seven and fourteen people each. Multiple boats booked together constitute what we call a Fleet Cruise. A Fleet Cruise can take up to fifty-six individuals.

<% end if if faq="length" then%>

How long is the cruise?
The cruises all last about 50 minutes. A two-hour cruise can be arranged at twice the price, but we don't recommend a cruise of that length; one hour seems to be ample.

<% end if if faq="reservations" then%>

Do we need to make reservations?
Reservations are required at least a day in advance, BUT we recommend two to three weeks for weekend cruises, a little less for mid-week times. If you are interested in seeing the Christmas lights on the bay, we start taking reservations for the month of December on July 1st.

<% end if if faq="offered" then%>

When are your cruises offered?
We offer cruises seven days a week all year long, from 11AM to 11PM, on the hour and on the half-hour. (Remember all are an hour long.) We are only closed five days out of the year: New Year's Day, 4th of July, Halloween, day of the annual Alamitos Bay Christmas Boat Parade (Saturday, mid-December), Christmas Day. Although, our office will be open for a limited time on Christmas Eve to make gift Certificates available.

<% end if if faq="credit" then%>

Why is a credit card required to make a reservation?
Similar to many hotel reservations, and a growing number of restaurant reservations, our Gondola reservations require a credit card number to assure us that you will show up or cancel at least a day in advance. Since we require a day's advance reservation, we cannot hope to fill a cruise at the last minute after a customer has decided not to show up. It becomes lost revenue, and we then charge the defaulting party the full price of the cruise. A simple way to avoid being charged for a cruise you didn't take is to call and cancel the day before; we will be able then to give your spot to another customer. It is different than dinner reservations, which can usually be filled by walk-in customers.

<% end if if faq="cost" then%>

How much does it cost?
The cost of a one-hour cruise for two people is $100.00. If you have other guests with you, we can accommodate up to four additional people at $30.00 each; thus, a party of six would be priced at $165. If you have a larger party, say between seven and nineteen people, we charge a flat rate of $25.00 per person. Parties of twenty to fifty-six people are $20.00 per person. Children age of three and under ride for free. The spirit of our no-charge-for-children policy is to allow a couple to bring along a child or two, rather than have to find a baby-sitter. Additionally, on the Caorlina, the bare minimum is seven passengers; if you arrive with fewer than the number you reserved with, you will still have to pay for a minimum of seven. An 18% gratuity will be added to parties of seven or more.

<% end if if faq="tour" then%>

Where does the cruise take us?
The route your boat travels will take you from our dock at the beach to the canal entrance across Alamitos Bay. Once inside the canals of Naples, you will see beautiful homes and yachts in a peaceful neighborhood setting punctuated by five quaint bridges and palm trees. There are about a mile's worth of canals in Naples, comprised of a large semi-circular canal called Rivo Alto Canal, and a shorter, straight canal, name the Naples Canal. Even long time Long Beach residents have admitted to us, after taking our cruise that they had never known that these canals existed. Indeed they are not visible to passers by from any major streets in the area.

<% end if if faq="discount" then%>

Do you have a discount for children?
Yes, children three years of age and younger ride the Gondolas for free; however, they do occupy one seat, for compliance with Coast Guard regulations. Therefore, we need to know in advance if you have a child coming with you, so that we can make sure you are scheduled in a Gondola that can accommodate the total number of occupants, whether paying or not. The spirit of our no-charge-for-children policy is to allow a couple to bring along a child or two, rather than have to find a baby-sitter.

<% end if if faq="gift" then%>

Are Gift Certificates available?
Gift Certificates are available by phone with a credit card, through the mail with a check, or in person with cash, check or credit card. In the first three cases, please give us your address and the address to which you would like the certificate sent, if different than your own address. Our Gift Certificates are good for one calendar year from the date of issue, and they are fully transferable. Older Certificates, which do not have a date on them, will be honored indefinitely, regardless of the price paid for the Gift Certificate at the time of issue. Most are good for one cruise for two people, unless otherwise specified at the time of purchase, and cost $90.00. Please remember, that when making a reservation, even if you have a gift certificate, we still require a credit card number to hold your reservation.

<% end if if faq="rates" then%>

Do you have any special rates for seniors, travel agents, or other groups?
Unfortunately we are not able to offer any special rates.

<% end if if faq="music" then%>

Do you provide music?
All of the Gondolas are equipped with CD players and classical music. If you bring a favorite CD, you may request that your Gondolier play it for you; however, we cannot guarantee the quality or condition of the Gondolier's CD player and are not liable to any damage that may occur to your CD as a result of the condition of the CD player. These CD players are used almost every night in an often damp, salt-air environment.

<% end if if faq="weddings" then%>

Can we get married on the Gondolas?
We happily host many weddings and wedding receptions every year on our Gondolas. Please call our office to set up a wedding or reception far in advance as there are extra logistical considerations that must be made, and the further ahead you plan, the more flexibility we will have in meeting your specific needs. We also do bachelor and bachelorette parties, wine and food tasting, corporate get-togethers, and more!

<% end if if faq="wine" then%>

Can we bring wine on the Gondola?
Of course! We provide glasses and an ice bucket for just such an occasion. We'll even open your bottle for you if you like. Please keep in mind, though, that we have no license to sell any food or beverages at our facility.
